Species Action Plans

On behalf of the Hampshire Biodiversity Partnership (a group of organisations implementing the Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) in Hampshire), Hampshire Wildlife Trust is responsible for the completion of a number of Species Action Plans. These plans will provide a framework for action to determine the status of endangered species in Hampshire and ensure that there is a programme of appropriate management to maintain and enhance their distribution.

To find out more about the Hampshire Biodiversity Action Plan go to the Hampshire Biodiversity website.

Once these plans are produced, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is responsible for implementing relevant parts of the BAP in co-operation with others, focusing particularly on

Specific projects to enhance the conservation of rare or endangered species, focusing particularly on research and survey and provision of management advice.

All data collated from these surveys will be compatible with the Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) for inclusion in the county and national databases. It is a priority that the results of all projects are fully disseminated to the appropriate parties including partner organisations, land managers and members. Click on the Wildlife Surveys button (on the left of the main Wildlife Conservation panel) for more information.

Hampshire BAP Research Implementation Group

It has been agreed by the Hampshire Biodiversity Partnership that the most effective method of implementation of the species and habitat action plans is through the allocation of responsibilities to individual implementation groups.

The Trust is forming a research implementation group comprising relevant research institutions and individuals with expertise in species conservation. This group will determine which actions in the BAP are already being implemented, and monitor progress. It will also identify actions outstanding in the BAP and identify who will be able to undertake the work and monitor progress

Species groups

The Species Action Plans will be implemented through Species Groups. There are four Hampshire and Isle of Wight species groups: Hampshire Amphibian and Reptile Group, Hampshire Mammal Group, Invertebrate Network and Flora Group. There are also other species groups operating in the county and the Trust will seek to work in conjunction with these groups on collaborative projects, and to improve communication between groups.
