Sponsor a Cow and help Hampshire's Wildlife

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is offering an exciting and innovative opportunity to support wildlife by sponsoring the six Dexter cows at Noar Hill Wildlife Reserve.

Joshua, Bob and Doren and family - the Trust's living lawnmowers - graze Noar Hill as part of the Grazing for Biodiversity Project.  Their munching ensures the grassland is kept open, helping rare plants and animals to thrive. Sponsoring a cow will help pay for their veterinary care and fencing repairs, allowing them to continue their essential work of keeping invasive scrub at bay.

Why Dexter Cattle?

Dexter cattle are an old Irish breed, small in stature with short legs which make them ideal for this very uneven site studded with medieval chalk pits.  Cattle grazing produces a large range of plant heights which is beneficial to many of the butterflies and wildflowers and their hooves help new plants to germinate by breaking open the turf.  Cattle dung also provides an important food source for a number of fungi, beetles and flies.
