Woodlice are crustaceans just like crabs and lobsters. They live in cool, dark, damp places and they like nothing better than munching on dead wood. |

Ground beetles are insects. They are predators, hunting for small insects and other creatures on the woodland floor. They in turn are hunted by bigger animals, such as blackbirds and hedgehogs. |

Earthworms are made up of lots of small segments. The segments are covered with tiny hairs that help the worm move through the soil. Earthworms eat dead leaves and other rotting plants, recycling them into the soil. |
