Swanwick Lakes Wildlife Education Centre
This 86 acre site shows evidence of man’s influence. It was part of an area important for strawberry growing in the late 19th century, clay extraction between 1897 - 1974 resulting in numerous quarries, and now the whole area has ‘returned to nature’ with lakes, wooded hills and valleys and flower-filled meadows.
Where is the Centre?
The site is situated between Fareham and Southampton, easily accessible from the M27 junction 8 or 9. Click here for detailed directions.
The building is a log cabin and we are working towards being more sustainable through:
- the use of water butts for topping up the pond and watering plants
- the use of compost bins
- providing cycle storage for visitors
- doing a waste–free lunch competition for visiting schools
