Local Biodiversity Action Plans
The biodiversity information team have been working in conjunction with Havant Borough Council and Portsmouth City Council to produce Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs) for each of the councils.
LBAPs aim to identify the conservation needs in an area and then actions are generated to target these requirements. Each of the actions has associated outcomes, partners to undertake the actions and a timescale, although some actions will be ongoing.
A "biodiversity audit" of the area has been undertaken to gain information such as key wildlife areas and species present. Some of this data was gained through workshops, where local councillors, conservation groups and relevant organisations were invited to attend and share their valuable local knowledge. Online questionnaires have also been run to gain information from a wider audience. This information has then been used to produce the actions for the LBAPs, which are both area wide and site specific.
Two rounds of consultation have been undertaken with partners for the Havant BAP to ensure concise and achievable actions and outcomes. The document has now been finalised and is available for download from the Havant Borough Council website at http://www.havant.gov.uk/havant-12025
Portsmouth LBAP is still in its draft stages.
