Kingfisher Appeal

We are over half way towards our target of raising £40,000 for our Kingfisher Appeal. We desperately need to raise this money to restore neglected habitats along the length of Itchen Navigation, an important wetland corridor between Southampton and Winchester. Because every £1 donated releases a further £19 of funding  already committed by  the Environment Agency, Heritage Lottery Fund and others, the £25,000 raised so far will actually make a total of £500,000 available to help restore the Itchen! If we can reach our target of £40,000 by the end of the year we will actually have an additional  £800,000, enough to complete the entire project by early 2013.  Map

Kingfishers Are In Trouble 

Kingfishers are one of this country's most iconic birds associated with our rivers. But nationally kingfishers are a cause of concern and are coded as ‘amber' on the national list of ‘Birds of Conservation Concern. The Itchen Navigation has the potential to be a stronghold for these birds, but major efforts are needed to create more potential breeding sites and territories 

Making a Difference - Twenty Times!

Our efforts on the Itchen Navigation so far have been made possible by generous funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the Environment Agency, and others - but only if we raise one twentieth of the costs ourselves.

  • A £10 donation will raise £200 which could provide artificial kingfisher nesting holes to improve breeding success
  • A £20 donation will raise £400 which could fund emergency repairs along 40m of eroded riverbank, using natural locally-sourced materials to prevent future bank collapse
  • A £50 donation will raise £1000 which could significantly enhance 50m of riverbank, creating new areas of habitat to provide shelter for kingfishers, water voles and otters

Help Us Fundraise

Western Primary School Wildlife Club are helping raise money for the Kingfisher Appeal by running a bake sale and taking part in a sponsored walk up the Itchen Navigation.
