Grown ups
Wildlife Watch groups are run by registered volunteers, within a framework of child welfare and safety. Parents are welcome to join in most events and may become registered helpers or leaders themselves. If there isn't a group near you, how about setting up a new one with some friends?
All Wildlife Watch activity is underpinned by five principles:
- Creating factual, informal, fun ways to investigate our surroundings
- Increasing understanding of our whole environment
- Fostering awareness and feeling for the world we live in
- Encouraging a caring attitude towards wildlife and participation in conservation
- Ensuring that young people's environmental concerns, ideas and opinions are recognised and developed, and opportunities created to act upon them
A typical Wildlife Watch Leader or Helper is someone who enjoys working with children, is enthusiastic and concerned about the environment and enjoys being outdoors. No expert knowledge is required to start, and volunteers working in teams receive support and guidance from Wildlife Trust staff.
Registered Leaders receive
- A resource pack to help you plan fun-filled, informative, safe activities
- LINK magazine, a regular update on current events, news and ideas for activities
- Copies of children's member resources
- Access to the Leaders area of the Wildlife Watch website, providing guidance, opportunities to share ideas and an activity database.
