Grassland Flowers

Birdsfoot Trefoil by Keith Aburrow Birdsfoot Trefoil is a member of the same family as peas. It is the favourite food of Common Blue butterfly caterpillars. It has lots of other names, including 'Eggs and bacon' because of its red and yellow flowers.
Oxeye daisy by David Purslow Oxeye Daisies are common in all kinds of grassland. They prefer to live in heavy damp soil. They are home to whitecrab spiders which use the white petals for camouflage.
Common Spotted Orchids The Common Spotted Orchid is one of the most common orchids in Britain. Its purple flowers can be seen from June to August. It grows best in damp meadows.
