The Kingfisher is a beautiful bird. It can be seen flying very quickly just above the surface of the water. Kingfishers use their sharp beaks to catch fish and freshwater insects. |

Herons can often be seen standing very still, close to the edge of the water, waiting for fish to swim close enough to be caught. Herons nest in large trees in groups called heronries. |

Coots feed on plants, snails and insects. They are usually seen on freshwater lakes where they are very noisy. They have a white face and bill, unlike the similar Moorhen, which has a red and yellow bill. |
