Hampshire and the Island's wildlife
Hampshire is arguably the most biodiverse county in the UK - hosting more species than any other in the country.
All 13 species of Britain’s amphibians and reptiles can still be found in Hampshire - 5 of which are regarded as being rare in the UK.
Dormice are suffering declines across the whole of UK, but have been found on reserves in both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Hampshire has over 4,313 Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs). Of these, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust manages 117.
Over 2947 species records were submitted last year – that’s 8 records being sent in EVERY DAY of the year!
