The Itchen Navigation is a highly modified chalk river, which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). It is rich in wildlife, but has banks that are vulnerable to erosion and collapse. Come and find out about what has been done to restore the channel and enhance the river for wildlife and discuss what more can be done to safeguard the historic waterway.
From monorails, to dog dips, community art projects to lock preservation, a wide range of topics will be covered in a series of talks, workshops, seminars and site visits.
River engineering on a protected site – water level management – bank restoration – establishing marginal plants – best practice techniques for managing dog walkers and the public – using art to reach a wider audience – how can volunteers help – heritage preservation – monitoring wildlife – partnership working – leaving a project legacy
More details about the conference can be found on the draft timetable and booking form.
