Chalkstream Invertebrates Project - How you can help
Sympathetic Habitat Management or Creation
If you own or manage land or a watercourse that you think may support (or potentially support) southern damselfly or white-clawed crayfish, and are interested to learn how you may be able to manage it sympathetically for these species, please contact the Chalkstream Invertebrates Project Officer on 01489 774400 or at feedback@hwt.org.uk.- Alternatively, if you are interested in learning what bankside and in-channel features are beneficial for aquatic invertebrates in general, please contact the Chalkstream Invertebrates Project Officer on 01489 774400 or at feedback@hwt.org.uk.
Minimising Risks to Crayfish
A number of our activities can inadvertently put our endangered white-clawed crayfish populations at risk. Please download this booklet produced in partnership with the Environment Agency to find out what simple measures you can take to minimise the chance that our activities will adversely affect our native crayfish populations.
Mapping Current Distribution
- If you have seen southern damselfly or crayfish, you can help us map their distribution by sending in your records to the Chalkstream Invertebrates Project Officer on 01489 774400 or at feedback@hwt.org.uk. These species can be difficult to identify and we would appreciate if you could provide contact details so we can discuss unusual sightings.
- If you are interested in volunteering with southern damselfly or crayfish survey please contact the Chalkstream Invertebrates Project Officer. Survey work is undertaken between April and October.
