2008 Bat Survey Results

Anton River by Peter EmeryIn September 2008 we carried out a preliminary survey to determine whether bats are present on the Anton, and if so, which species. We surveyed a stretch of river from Rooksbury Mill Local Nature Reserve up to Asda.

In total, 5 species of bat were found along the 1km stretch. These were Common Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Daubenton, Serotine, and Noctule. Daubenton bats were found to be feeding on the river, and Pipistrelles were found to be flying quite soon after sunset. This suggests that they may be roosting nearby, although our results don't lead to a definite conclusion.

A more in depth survey will be carried out next year. Click the map for an enlarged image.Bat Survey - 2008
