Romsey District Group

The Romsey District Group invites you to join them for indoor and outdoor events throughout the year to learn more about local wildlife in our area. The District Group also acts as the local ‘ears to the ground' for the Wildlife Trust, promoting and getting involved in local conservation work.

Indoor meetings

We hold monthly meetings indoors from Sept-Nov and Jan-April, usually on the third Monday of the month at the Crosfield Hall, Broadwater Road, Romsey which has a large, free and well lit car park. We arrange an interesting programme of illustrated talks and these are very popular with an average of 70 people attending. In 2011, the programme included Wildlife in the Garden; the Changing Fortunes of Hampshire’s Butterflies; Elephants in Africa; Winnall Moors and most recently the Kingfisher.

Outdoor visits

We organise a varied programme of outdoor visits and walks to Trust reserves and other places of wildlife interest. In 2011, the programme included walks on Broughton Down for birds, butterflies and flowers; Winnal Moors to see the ongoing results of the River Itchen Restoration Project; Spearywell Wood for butterflies (our 50th Anniversary event); Burley Lawn for over 40 species of New Forest flowers.

Conservation Work

Regular work parties take place at Emer Bog on the 2nd Sunday of the month, Sept – April.

Details about all our events and activities can be found in the Trust's Wildlife Events Diary or at www.hwt.org.uk/events.php. For further information please call Theo Jarman on 01794 514825.
