Bishops Waltham District Group

The Bishops Waltham Group runs events throughout the year – walks in the summer and talks in the winter. We also work closely with the local Hampshire County Council Countryside Ranger who organises walks from time to time, details of which are available from HCC. We also try to include them with our information.

Where, When, What …?

Talks

These are listed on the Trust events list.
We meet at the hall in Free Street (next to the Library) at 7.30pm on the fourth Monday in the month.
Admission is £2.50 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

Walks

These are listed on the Trust events list.
Generally they will include:

  • A Dawn Chorus Walk (with HCC) followed by breakfast
  • A Moth Trapping Evening/Morning viewing of what we have caught
  • A Glow Worm spotting evening – yes we have them in Bishops Waltham!
  • At least one walk across our local Reserves, including “The Moors” – the orchids are particularly beautiful on this site, and everyone loves the “Sand Boils” – one of the risings of the River Hamble

Previous talks have included:

The Bishops Waltham group had an interesting weekend with a Glow Worm walk on 24th July - we saw 12-15 glow worms at the Claylands Nature Reserve which was a new experience for most of those present.

On Saturday 25th we had a walk followed by a moth trapping evening and the following morning we were at the site bright and early to view the moths caught.  We were delighted with the results of the five traps set and list of the moths seen can be downloaded.

We were particularly pleased to see a good number of families at both events, with the youngsters getting involved.

We have an interesting Autumn programme set up. See the events list for full details of forthcoming events – even if the topic is not one you have ever been interested in before, do come along and join us – you will be assured of a warm welcome as well as finding out about something new! We are a friendly group and we look forward to seeing you at our events over the forthcoming season.

Call Jane Gentry on 01489 890961 for further details or if you would like to volunteer a talk or walk.
