Autumn Tree Identification Walk
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust invite you to join Peter Billinghurst and Wildlife Trust staff on Saturday 25th September for a wonderful autumn walk with the opportunity to learn about tree identification skills.

Local business scoops wildlife garden award
Hambrooks garden design and landscaping have teamed up with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to create two stunning demonstration gardens at their garden centre in Titchfield, Fareham. The gardens contain wildlife friendly plants and features designed to create a haven for local wildlife. Both gardens have also qualified for the Wildlife Trust’s wildlife friendly garden award.
Another Reason to Visit Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve
A new garden at Testwood Lakes Centre has been created by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust volunteers, providing an additional safe and exciting discovery area for visiting schools and community groups to enjoy.
Wildlife Trust Family Fun Day

Wildlife Land Art in Winchester
Over the weekend (17th and 18th July) a huge piece of artwork inspired by nature has been created in Winchester by 400 people.

River Anton Photographic Competition
With the sun shining and holidays around the corner, there is no better time to get out and about in the local area. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust have launched a photographic competition on the River Anton, Andover as part of the River Anton Enhancement Strategy.

A brand new Wildlife Watch group for children and families in the Fleet area has just been launched. Wildlife Watch is the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts and the UK’s leading environmental action club for children. Group activities for children, with a strong family focus, are organised by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust volunteers.

Walking On Water - A Boat Makes It Easier
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has made the first use of its brand new rigid inflatable boat, which is a major asset in supporting the Trust’s vital marine conservation work. It has just been launched for the first time from Hardway Public Slipway, Gosport where the Wildlife Trust’s marine team used the boat to survey seagrass in Portsmouth Harbour.

Amazing Grazing Dream Comes True for Local School
The children at Velmead School and Fleet Infants will be turning their hand to livestock checking over the next few weeks as the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust Grazing Project is putting cattle out to graze Velmead Junior school’s very own piece of heathland. The cows may be at school but their job is the same - to graze the long grasses and tree saplings which will help to keep heathland area open and great for wet heathland wildlife.
Rare fungus discovered in England for first time
As the eyes of the world focus on football, keen-eyed conservationists are already celebrating a special goal for England - the first sighting of a rare fungus - Multiclavula vernalis. And, despite the difference in size, its similarity to the World Cup has not gone unnoticed!
Crowds and sun at Roydon Wood Fair
Over 1,000 people came along to the annual Wood Fair and Local Produce event at Roydon Woods Wildlife Reserve held on Sunday 6th June. Run by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, the event helps to promote local produce and products from local farmers and small woodlands in the New Forest.

Over the weekend a giant image of a salmon, eels and a dragonfly has been created on Eastleigh rugby pitch in Bishopstoke. 120 members of the public worked together to make the image from natural materials.

Coalition government urged by Wildlife Trusts to have higher ambition for nature
Debbie Tann, Chief Executive, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is joining senior officers of wildlife trusts throughout the country in calling on the new coalition government to raise its game in policies on the natural environment and commit to a White Paper on Nature.
Roydon Woods - Wood Fair and Local Produce Market
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust will be holding the 3rd annual Wood Fair on Sunday June 6th, 11am - 4pm at Roydon Woods - one of our nature reserves in the New Forest National Park, between Brockenhurst and Lymington. The aim of the day is to inspire people about the value of woodlands for wildlife as well as showing their importance as a source of wood for local wood workers.

2010 Wildlife Survey Launched
2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity and Saturday 22nd May is International Year of Biodiversity Day. To celebrate the occasion, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are launching a simple wildlife survey that everyone can take part in over the summer months.
Historic lock preserved for its 300th anniversary
The remains of Mansbridge Lock on the Itchen Navigation in Southampton have been preserved by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The completion of the repairs coincides with the 300th anniversary of the creation of the Itchen Navigation as a trading route.

Wildlife Trust Youth Volunteers Win Environmental Award
The Foxlease Meadows Youth Volunteering Group, run by The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, has won a Hart Volunteer Recognition Award in the category of Environmental Protection and Enhancement. Winners were announced at an award ceremony in Fleet, the first of its kind.
Itchen Way footpath re-opened at Brambridge
The Itchen Way footpath between Highbridge Road in Eastleigh and Kiln Lane to the north has now been re-opened after vital bank and footpath repair work.
Wildlife Trust warns caution over coastal access
The coast of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is one of the most valuable assets of this county. The riches of our saltmarshes, mudflats, reedbeds, vegetated shingle and soft cliffs support internationally important populations of species such as Brent geese, black-tailed godwits and eelgrass. The majority of the coastline of our two counties is protected under national and international wildlife designations. The coast is also a major attraction for people who wish to enjoy all that it offers.

Could you be a “Looker”?
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is appealing for volunteer “Lookers” to check the livestock that is helping to improve the rare and endangered heathland for wildlife on reserves in the Fleet and Aldershot area and near Bordon and Liss.
Conservation efforts to benefit the rare little tern
During the second half of April some major habitat improvement and creation will take place at Hayling Island Oysterbeds in the northeast corner of Langstone Harbour. This is to benefit the little tern, a rare species of ground-nesting sea bird, which prefers bare shingle to nest on. Worryingly, as well as having shown a population decline in recent years it has also abandoned a number of previously used sites along the south coast and conservationists are keen to retain a breeding population in Langstone Harbour.

The Itchen Navigation Heritage Trail Project, managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has won the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) Living Wetlands Award.
