Get involved at Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve!

Have you visited Testwood Lakes Nature Reserve in Totton before? If not, you definitely should! Testwood Lakes is a 150 acre site owned by Southern Water and managed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The reserve is located in the north of Totton/Calmore and is an assortment of grassland, wet woodland, hedgerow and lakes, complete with bird hides, viewing screens and an education centre.
If you want to learn more about the reserve and the wildlife that lives here then you could come along to one of our events – visit our website to find out what and when these are taking place. If you are visiting the reserve on a Sunday afternoon we have a dedicated team of local volunteers based in the Testwood Lakes Centre and sometimes around the reserve. They can tell you more about the reserve and its wildlife and suggest activities to help you explore the site. For a small donation you can enjoy a hot drink whilst looking around the centre and pick up leaflets about other nearby places.
We currently aren’t able to have the centre open on Saturday afternoons as we don’t have enough volunteers to be able to. Our current Sunday volunteers come in once a month for three hours. We would really like to start opening the centre on Saturdays too so that visitors can have a more interactive experience when they visit the nature reserve. If you can spare a few hours on a Saturday afternoon once a month (or whatever you can!) and would like to join the friendly Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust team we would love to hear from you.
Our current team range in age and consists of people who are students, working full time and retired, people from all walks of life and people with varying abilities. Some people are bird enthusiasts, some are interested in the outdoors in general and some people enjoy meeting new people. You don’t need any previous experience and we will make sure you know enough about the reserve and where everything is before-hand. If you are part of a community group that would benefit from the use of our centre whilst making sure a few people available to talk to visitors then please do get in touch.
