Havant hayling & Emsworth
A late report of an albino deer crossing Barton Rd Havant on 15th was reported as a roe deer but I suspect it was a fallow.
A rare Pallas’s warbler was at Sandy Point Hayling Island from Monday. It was joined by a firecrest the following day. Later in the week a Richard’s pipit made a quick visit to the reserve.
A ruby tiger caterpillar was seen heading for hibernation in Emsworth on 24th.
At Sinah Warren a black redstart was seen near the shore east of the warren while a Sandwich tern was just off shore.
Sandwich terns and a scoter were seen off the east Hayling shore on 26th.
A deceiver was unusually for this time of the year the only fungus found in Havant Thicket on 28th. Devils bit scabious was still showing bright colour on a few plants.
On 29th the Thorney Island cattle egret roosted with 78 little egrets at the Little Deeps. A ‘red head’ goosander was on the Great Deeps. A Dartford warbler was at the south of the island and 11 swallows flew over Pilsey Island.
A flock of around 300 redpolls was counted at Sandy Point on 29th. There were also chiffchaffs on the reserve while others were seen at Mill Rythe and Sinah.
Eighteen egrets roosted at Gutner Point Hayling Island at high tide on 29th.
Another firecrest was seen west of the Sinah Warren hotel on 29th.
A long-tailed duck was on the Budds Farm lagoons on 29th and 30th.
A short-eared owl circled over the oyster beds on Hayling Island and then flew inland on 29th.
White-flowered hedgerow cranesbill was still in flower at Havant bus station this week and wild clary can still be seen on the plants in Christopher Way Emsworth.
Redwings flew over the Havant Civic Centre area in the evening of Friday 28th.
Portsmouth & Portsdown
A flock of 25 goldfinches was over a Cosham garden on 25th.
Five avocets and a curlew sandpiper were on the lake at Farlington Marshes on Friday 28th.
Fareham and Gosport
A Lapland bunting was at Gilkicker Point on 25th.
At Titchfield Haven on 26th a marsh harrier was the highlight of the day.
Gosport’s regular ring-billed gull was back on Haslar lake on 30th.
Waterlooville and South Downs
A red kite flew over Windmill Hill Clanfield on 28th. Three were seen near Locksash Farm West Marden on 23rd.
