Portsmouth & Portsdown

Seven common seals were seen from Farlington Marshes on Sunday 15th.
On Monday there was one and on Wednesday 2 little stints on the Deeps at Farlington Marshes.  They were still present at the weekend.
Birds seen on or from the reserve over the weekend included sand martins, common sandpipers, curlew sandpiper, snipe, Sandwich tern, wheatears, yellow wagtails, spotted flycatcher, reed warblers, linnets, whinchat and a hobby.  An osprey was over the Portsmouth side of the harbour.

Havant hayling & Emsworth

On 11th August 2 baby adders were seen on the Hayling Billy Trail.
On 12th a purple hairstreak butterfly was seen in Staunton CP.  A brown argus was seen in a Grove Rd garden on 16th.
On Sunday 15th an osprey  was seen catching a fish off Thorney Island. There have been at least two birds around the island and singles in Langstone Harbour. Also on 15th a kingfisher flew over Peter Pond at Emsworth.
Seven long-winged coneheads were on a blue ‘Emsworth Waysides Project' post at Dolphin Quay in Emsworth on Sunday 15th.  A dark bush cricket was at Brook Meadow on 19th.
Amphibious Bistort was in flower at Brook meadow on 15th.
A flotilla of 10 shelducks off Warblington Farm on 16th included at least 9 juveniles.  A reed bunting was on the farm fields on 18th.
A white goose was seen with a group of 20 Canadian Geese in Langstone Harbour this week.
Northney has been a bird hot spot this week with pied and spotted flycatchers, lesser whitethroat, goldcrest, garden warblers, blackcap, willow warblers and chiffchaffs.  A nightingale was seen on the Northney Common.
At the oyster beds on Wednesday the birds seen included whimbrel, greenshank and 2 common sandpipers.
Three black terns, a fulmar and 12 gannets were seen from Sandy Point Hayling Island on Friday.
Autumn ladies tresses are at last in flower in a North Emsworth garden so it would be worth checking other known sites for them.
Four garden warblers and a redstart were among the other warblers around the Sinah gravel pit on Hayling on Sunday.
A wild clary of unknown origin was seen on an Emsworth roadside recently.
Other flowers seen this week in the Havant area include devils bit scabious on Gipsies Plain, and sneezewort on Thicket Lawn (SW of Leigh Park Gardens).
Pippistrelle, serotine, Daubenton's and a rare barbastelle bat were found in recent surveys around Emsworth.
Red cracked bolete and giant puffballs have appeared in Havant gardens this week.

Fareham and Gosport

An osprey was disturbed along Mayles Lane Wickham on Monday.

Waterlooville and South Downs

Pale toadflax and a very late frog orchid were found in flower at Old Winchester Hill on 14th.
