Park Gate School are Wildlife Winners

21 April 2010

Year 3 Park Gate Primary with award

Year 3 at Park Gate School have been presented with a wildlife friendly garden award by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The school is the first in the County to qualify for the scheme which was launched in November last year and encourages Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents to make simple changes in their local area for the benefit of wildlife.

One of the Park Gate pupils said 'I really enjoyed finding out about the wildlife and it was exciting to get the award'.

Bethan Davis, Year 3 teacher at Park Gate explained more: "Our project to regenerate our pond and wildlife area has been very rewarding.  The children have enjoyed learning about what the wildlife needs and surveying the area.  Getting the award from the Wildlife Trust has been the icing on the cake! We would like to thank the Wildlife Trust for their support and we will be proudly displaying the plaque in our new bird hide when we get it!

Natalie Rogers, Wildlife Information Officer at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust says "gardens are vital for wildlife and can provide much needed resources for local wildlife such as food, water and shelter. Our wildlife gardening scheme has been extremely popular with Hampshire and Isle of Wight residents and we hope to raise awareness of the simple steps that everyone can take to benefit wildlife."
