SE Nature Notes for w/e Feb 13th

Portsmouth & Portsdown
Frogs were seen coupled in a Portsdown pond on Monday.
On 12th a little egret was at a garden pond in Cosham. The same garden has had a red admiral on recent sunny days, a cock pheasant and 6 blackcaps in recent days.
Also on Monday there were 10 purple sandpipers at Southsea castle.
A sparrowhawk rested on the balcony of a block of flats in Portsmouth on Wednesday.
A bumble bee was seen emerging from a hedgerow in central Portsmouth on Thursday.
On the same day a greenshank was seen in Hilsea Creek and a peregrine flew over the IBM site.
Two ravens flew over Portsdown early Friday morning.
A marsh harrier was seen over the RSPB islands on Saturday.
Havant hayling & Emsworth
The green-winged teal has stayed on the Budds Farm Pools all this week and the oyster beds velvet scoter was still at the oyster beds on Saturday.
On Monday two greenshanks flew east over Mill Lane Langstone.
A marsh harrier was hunting over Thorney Island on Monday.
A sparrowhawk shot past the door of Havant Police Station at high speed on Wednesday. Also this week a buzzard was seen perched on a tree overhanging the Lymbourn Steam just south of the A27.
A woodcock flew over the Sinah gravel pit on Hayling Island and into cover on the northern edge.
A kingfisher was seen at the end of the Staunton Park lake on Friday. There were also 20 or more redwings and a few mistle thrushes on the top field.
Four red-throated divers flew west from off Sinah into the Solent on Saturday. A Slavonian grebe was on the sea some distance off shore and a Mediterranean gull near the Ferry Boat Inn.. A great-northern diver was at Sandy Point at the other end of Hayling Island.
On Saturday there were over 200 redwings and a single fieldfare on the West Lane fields Hayling Island. There were more fieldfares east of Emsworth on 10th.
A common scoter appeared in Hayling bay on Sunday 14th when there were 15 eiders off Sandy Point.
In Nutbourne Bay at high tide Saturday there were 4 avocets. There have apparently been reports of a barn owl on the fields in this area.
Fareham and Gosport
There was a great-northern diver and 3 velvet scoters off Hill Head on Monday.
Waterlooville and South Downs
A Waterlooville garden had 2 redwings on Thursday
